Ministry FAQ

How many on your team? We have 14 “covenanted” members, and about as many more volunteers. Several of them raise their own support as well, if you feel led to support them.

Do you charge for your services to Russians? Mostly yes, but not enough to cover expenses as of yet.

What is your target audience? It used to be primarily Russian Christians in St. Petersburg. It gradually expanded to where we were serving and sometimes traveling around Russia. Now, our Novo Academy and my Telegram channel reach Russian-speakers worldwide, which, by the way, is the second largest language used online!

What about ministry to orphans? Diana and I did this for several years, but the ministry itself changed leadership and our input was no longer needed. Simultaneously other ministry opportunities were gaining momentum.

Do you do evangelism? I am now developing a practical training on evangelism, but it’s a very different model than the norm. It’s based on our Real Talk training, and it honors others’ openness and the real questions in their hearts. I will co-lead it with two new members of our team whose sole focus this is. One member of our team, Ilya, uses a neon Cadillac (see left) to reach the younger generation. We are also developing an evangelistic outreach to businesses with a new team we have formed to Christian business coaches and consultants.

How does being out of Russia affect ministry? We’ve been in and out several times since the start of the war for various reasons beyond, but including the war itself. Being in ministry full time is no longer impacted by my presence there, although I want to get back to being their permanently. There are three exceptions to my effectiveness at a distance: 1) less personal attention and pastoral care for the team from me; 2) I don’t get to travel to do on-site ministry; 3) I can’t make new connections as easily.

What is your typical day? Primarily meetings with the team, writing curriculum, writing posts for my Telegram channel, and direct ministry calls (counseling, mentoring, training, etc.)

Could you use a large donation? Well, this isn’t exactly a frequently asked question, but hey. 🙂 Our needs are only growing with stage of life, needs related to the impact of the war, and the growth of the ministry. For more details, click here
